meet new kid club & how this collab came to be
There’s a moment in every collab where the colour palette lands and you go, oh. This is going to be a good one. With New Kid Club, that moment came early. Bold, bright, summery, the kind of palette that makes you smile before you’ve even finished scrolling. 🌈
This collection is what happens when an all female print collective from the UK meets a colour obsessed fabric brand from Australia. Spoiler, it’s a lot of joy in one place.
who new kid club are
New Kid Club is an all female, UK based collective of print designers and illustrators creating trend led, imaginative prints for kids. Ellie Hyde, Nina Ghataora and Carly Gledhill bring decades of experience between them, with work that’s already lived on shelves at Crate & Barrel, Target, H&M, Hallmark and a long list of other lovely names.
What pulled me in was the energy of their work. Quirky, characterful, playful, and unapologetically colourful. It felt like a home for the dopamine sewing crowd before we even started talking about a collab. Find them at @new_kid_club on Instagram, on Pinterest and over at newkidclub.com.
how the collection came to life
What inspired this collection?
The collection was inspired by our shared love of bold colours and through playing with abstract shapes. We love to use floral and butterfly motifs, which are the heroes of the collection and give it a huge Summer vibe.
What is your process of creating art?
We first collaboratively chose a bold and inspiring colour palette, before combining different print ideas to form the collection. There’s a bit of a Pic-Nic in the park vibe to it all, checks and stripes for your blanket, florals for your dress and stripes for your napkins, perfect!
Picnic in the park. Could there be a better brief for a colourful summer collection. Florals, checks, stripes, all designed to play together so you can sew a whole little world from one round of fabric.
What's your favourite print from the collection?
Can we have 3? Go on! It’s the 3 we’ve pre-named ‘Happy’ - Terrazzo, Butterflies and Floral. Our boldest, dopamine prints, we LOVE them.
If the collection was a movie, what movie would it be?
It would have to be a sunny 90’s rom-com, Brittany Murphy, Heath Ledger and The Sundays on the soundtrack. Does that exist?
If it was a book?
It’s a summer recipe book, mango punch, strawberry fruit salad and rainbow macarons.
What do you hope the community feels when seeing the collection?
We hope the collection inspires the feeling of the happy vibes we poured into designing it.
That’s the whole point really. The collection is a delivery system for happy. It’s why this collab fit The Colour Collab so naturally. Colour and personality matter, sewing should feel joyful, and the makers behind this work poured every bit of that into the artwork.
Come have a browse of the collection, and join The Colour Collab Club for first looks when the next round opens. Collabs really are our jam, and this one is the bees-knees. 🫶🏻
