What inspired the collection?
'Brightside' was inspired by the joy of creating and just letting loose with colour. I wanted it to be playful and energetic, it's a celebration of materials, mark making and the feel-good power of print. 'Paintbox' was the first design, it was created from layering sketchbook doodles and expressive marks in paint, felt tips and crayons. I was honestly just having fun without worrying too much about the outcome, and I wanted that feeling of positivity to carry through into the rest of the designs. I love that Teggun was just on board with this vibe straight away, we were creatively on the same page which made the project fun from start to finish. Collaborating on the collection together was a very colourful escape!
What is your process for creating your prints?
My favourite way to work is in my sketchbook, I then scan everything in at a high resolution so I can keep all of that lovely texture and hand-drawn energy. Some of these designs started life as paper collages, and a couple are digital drawings layered with handmade textures on my ipad. It's good to mix things up, it keeps things feeling fresh and keeps me on my toes!
What is your favourite print from the collection?
Ooh that's a tough one...I think Petal Palette is a really fun print, I loved drawing all of those layered shapes and it was a fun puzzle deciding where to place each colour to achieve a happy flow to the design. It's going to look great at different scales and it's also a really nice bridge between the abstract and floral designs.
If you could describe the collection as an ice cream flavour, what would it be?
It's your favourite flavour covered in a generous helping of rainbow sprinkles.
If you could describe the collection as a song, what would it be?
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves
What are your hopes for people to feel when looking at/wearing the collection?
My number one goal as a designer is to create prints that will make you smile and bring a bit of sunshine to your day. I hope people will create items that they use in their everyday lives and reach for time and time again, and I hope that these are the kind of prints that will have strangers asking you where you got that fabric from. I love to design prints with main character energy...I think this collection definitely ticks that box!
